His name was Casper. He was the most magnificent creature ever. Grand, graceful, with his dark mane trimmed to perfection. From that moment, Jenny Larsdotter Olsson knew she had to have horses in her life.
“I must have been seven or eight, when I first visited the Royal Stables in the centre of town. I can still remember entering the big doors to the stables with its patterned brickwork, leaving the noisy city environment behind – and what it did to me. The anticipation. The respect. The fervour. The smell of old leather, manure, and molasses. I was in heaven.
As soon as Casper caught my eyes, I felt an immediate connection. He wasn’t the only horse in the stable. Next to him stood about a dozen others, bay in colour and with impressive heights. But no other had his charisma; alert but not unnerved, capricious yet calm.
Peering over the edge of the box door, everything else around me disappeared. I didn’t hear the hoofbeats, or the munching on hay. I didn’t see the shining harness, or even notice the groomsmen carrying bridles and saddles around. All I could see, feel and sense was this magnificent horse.
Although a small kid, I wasn’t afraid when he stretched out his muzzle and sniffed me with curiosity; a warm exhale from the nostrils vined through my hair.
Creating this fragrance was an intense journey into my youth, when much time was spent in horse stables. Each one carries its own story, just like the Royal Stables at Väpnargatan 1, but they all offered a place where independence grew amidst lovingly polished bridles. Whenever life was troublesome, I turned to the stable, it was my safe place. A place to feel seen and needed, where you know that someone else is dependent on you, and you are dependent on them. A place to be present in the now, and where everything made sense.”
